Our Technology

Qubulus utilizes two fundamental technologies, Fingerprinting and the QPS Positioning Engine, in conjunction with each other, to provide some of the worlds most accurate indoor positioning.

Fingerprinting

According to Dictionary.comFingerprinting can be defined as

To identify by a distinctive mark or characteristic

Fingerprinting is used in reference to our methodology because every physical spot in the world has a very unique radio signature.  When you stand in one specific place, you are subject to a specific number of radio signals, being broadcast at a very specific frequency, being received at your location within a specific range of strengths.

When you move, even a few meters, the radio signature you experience is slightly different.  It isn’t radically different, which is what allows us to move our phones and laptops around a room without disconnecting from the internet, but it has subtle differences that if measured and calibrated in the right way, opens up a world of opportunities for indoor positioning.

Qubulus and its partners are trained in collecting this data and calibrating the information in such a way that allows for optimal positioning within an indoor environment.  Multiple measurements must be taken, and a set of tests must be performed, all for the sake of collecting the highest level of accuracy in collecting the right data for the right purposes.

Once the data is collected, the fingerprint generation begins.  Using Qubulus’ proprietary algorithms developed in collaboration with leading professors at Lund University, all of the collected information is compressed and compiled in a way that allows the QPS™ Positioning Engine to generate an accurate, indoor position, in less than a fraction of a second.

 

Positioning Engine

 
Generating the fingerprint is only half the battle.  The QPS™ Engine takes two inputs: your devices active wireless signals, and the previously generated fingerprint.  Using these in conjunction with each other, the QPS™ Engine matches the available radio signals with the generated fingerprint to find an accurate location for the device.

But it doesn’t stop at estimating a position in two dimensions. The QPS™ Engine is capable of Z-Level positioning, accurately placing you on any floor within a building with near flawless accuracy.

Once this position is generated in XYZ space, they sky is the limit. Indoor navigation, location based coupons, augmented reality games, the possibilities are endless!
